“[5] Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. [6] Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. [7] You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. [8] But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. [9] Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices [10] and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. [11] Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.” (Colossians 3:5-11)
The Bible tells us to put to death our earthly nature which was with us for the longest times. Sin has a strong grip on me because I have been in the world for longer than I have been in the Kingdom. At times, it is easier for me to go into my sinful nature than it is for me to behave and think spiritually.
The Bible provided practicals which could help us become better disciples; to get rid of anger, rage, malice, slander and filthy language from my lips. Seemed easy until I really need to put them into practice. I understand that these are all difficult tasks, but it is possible if I go back to God frequently to find that motivation to be a better disciple for Him.
Thank God for the salvation! I can be very ungrateful at times, taking the salvation for granted. But I am praying hard that God will soften my heart everyday and help me put my old self to death, becoming more godly and Christlike by and by.
Amen.
