“[14] But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. [15] Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. [16] For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.” (James 3:14-16)
In Singapore, trying to get ahead in the corporate ladder is quite common among the working class people. The culture has it that we need to do our best to outdo others so that we could get ahead.
There are people who do all things that are unethical and dangerous, just to get ahead of others.
The Bible warns me about these thoughts which could manifest into sinful desires and cause me to drift away from the love of God.
Instead of chasing after things such as a title in the workplace or a promotion, let us consider chasing after the promises of God.
While writing this, I am also reminded that I should seek Him first.
